Week 2 The GREAT Arrival

School is starting to get into full swing.  I started my ethics class this week, so I have now started 5 of my 6 classes this semester.  Physio is starting to get rough, and not because it is super difficult material, but because the professor is very difficult to understand and kind of sucks at teaching.  Other than that, school's going well so far, there's just a lot to think about with 6 different classes.  I feel a bit like I don't know where to focus my energy, but I'll figure it out.

As far as my new healthy life plan, it is going very well at present.  I've been working out daily, counting my calories, and eating plenty of fruits and veggies.  I tried my first Zumba class this week, which was a blast!  It was an hour long, really hardcore workout, that was a lot of fun!

Thursday, I was able to make a little room for fun and went to happy hour and dinner with some classmates at La Tasca.  My fav tapas restaurant.

Friday, was the big day, Richard arrived!  He got in at 3pm, so I came home to my husband, my dog, and Thane.  The apartment was a wreck but it was sure nice that it wasn't empty.

Saturday, Thane left early and Richard and I spent the day trying to recover from the move.  We got cable and a DVR, we went to the grocery store, we unpacked and organized...it was a busy day.  Then for dinner, we headed out to Sara and Tom's for a wonderful time and some ridiculously delicious food!

Sunday, we did some cooking, Rich watched a bunch of football, and I hunkered down and did a little studying...just getting ready to start the week.  Plus, tomorrow's Richard's first day at his new job, wish him luck!

Semester 2 Week 1...And so it begins again.

So, this week started out wonderfully with my trip home from Dallas arriving back to DC at midnight.  I then had two days to get all ready for school, get everything cleaned up, and all my errands done.  So it took some time and a little stress but I eventually got it all together, and even had time for a nice dinner with friends.

Monday, Lauren and Nicole came over for some dinner.  I made canellini bean dip, followed by pancetta vegetable soup, a main course of chicken milanese and salad, and finished off with a low cal jello chocolate pudding with cool whip.  But mostly it was nice to catch up after the break!

Tuesday, First day of the new semester and day 1 of my new healthy life plan.  I have started an exercise regimen and decided to make some dietary modifications to improve my health.  In order to be successful with this endeavor Lauren, Nicole, and I are holding each other accountable.  I also downloaded a great app on my iPhone that I have become obsessed with called edibles it is a food and exercise journal that allows you to track your caloric intake and estimated output, it's wonderful!  Then I also started a daily blog where I can just write about my day and what I'm doing... we'll see what works is the goal.

School has not quite gotten into full swing yet, but I can tell it's going to be an intense semester.  So I'm trying to enjoy this week but not get too far behind.

Thursday, I attended my first Georgetown Basketball game it was great!  We played Seaton Hall and WON!  I went out with 7 other girls, and we hit up La Tasca for some delicious Sangria (1/2 price on thursdays) and tapas.  It was a very successful night out!

Friday, after school I had a chance to hang out a bit with Heyni and Lauren we went down to Georgetown and had some dinner/drinks, before heading to the university to watch Where The Wild Things Are.  It was a very interesting movie, I'm not quite sure waht to make about it, I was surprised to find it pretty funny.  Also, one week from today Richard will be moving here!!! YEAH!!!

Saturday, I had a dinner party with a full table!  It was great, I love entertaining!  I tried to not get too crazy with the big dinner, I didn't want to make 2 courses but I ended up doing more than planned as usual.  We had Caprese salad, Cucumber salad, a mixed green salad, Rigatoni with sauce and meatballs, garlic basil croutons, followed by peach blackberry cobbler.  It was wonderful!  Then we headed to Black Fin for a mixer with the Med School and Graduate Business School, where we danced the night away!  It was a great start to the semester!

Winter Reading Recommendation

Over my Christmas break I had the opportunity to do some reading, here are my recommendations.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield                                             This book is brilliant and one of the best books I've read in the last few years.  It was my favorite of all my recent reads.  It is a bit of a dark story of life reminicent of Wuthering Heights with inspiration from Jane Eyre.  I was absolutely wrapt while reading.  If you enjoyed the previously mentioned books or stories of ghosts, skeletons in closets, and dark family secrets, you will love this book.

The Help by Kathryn Stockett

This was my second favorite book of all my Christmas reads.  It is a story about bravery and courage  as a group of maids in Mississippi during the Civil Rights movement join forces with a rebellious southern belle to write a book about their stories.  It is very interesting, the biggest downfall is that the chapters written from the maids perspectives are a little bit difficult to read at first (kind of Huckleberry Finn ish), the first chapter is written in this perspective, so hang in there it will be worth it in the end.

If You Could See Me Now by Cecelia Ahern

Cecelia Ahern is a wonderfully creative author and one of my favorite, you may have read P.S. I love you, which is one of our more popular reads.  I have read several of her other books and they have all been very light and entertaining.  This book in particular is about a young women with lots of family drama that has pratically paralyzed her life.  She has put everything on hold, and made some big sacrifices for her family, this is the story of her finding her way back to life with the assistance of a friend named Ivan.  I would highly reccomend this book for a light "fluffy" read with a bit of a lesson behind it, definately a good before bed book.

Riding Lessons by Sara Gruen

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen is in my top five favorite books of all time, so I was excited to try this book out.  Unfortunately, I was pretty disappointed.  This book is about 375 pages long and about 325 of them are depressing.  It's the story of a woman's life completely falling apart and her return from the brink, but mostly the falling apart.  I would not recommend this book, especially because it has a sequel that now I feel like I have to read because I started it, but really have no desire to read!

Goodbye 2009, Hello 2010!

New year's is an interesting holiday to me, people tend to make a big deal out of it to the point that it rarely seems to live up to expectations...However, this was not the case for us this year!  We rang in 2010 at a house party in Keller with some of our best friends!  Richard's friend Tony from college threw a premium party in their new mansion on a hill, it was wonderful!  Good food, good drinks, and good friends, what better way to finish 2009 and hail 2010?  It was a black and white themed cocktail party so everyone looked fantastic (as you can see).

We ate, drank, danced and then counted down with all the standard accoutrements...hats, noisemakers, confetti poppers, sparklers, and champagne!  Then we kept on celebrating until 3:45am, when we decided to leave I headed for the coat closet to pick up my coat.  Unfortunately, it wasn't there, yup someone had so much to drink they took my PURPLE button up coat instead of their black zip up coat.  So, everyone thought I was just overlooking it, until 4 other people confirmed that there was no purple coat to be found.  So we left sans coat, and that's when things really got interesting... Richard decided in his drunken stupor that it was my fault that someone stole my coat and he proceeded to argue with Oscar, Nancy, and I for 15 minutes.  It was quite hilarious...he apoligized this morning :)

Then for New Year's Day we had a lovely breakfast and a PJ day with Oscar and Nancy until about 2:30 when we decided to head home.  Then we hit up happy hour at Zenna (one of my favorite sushi spots).  Then when we got home we decided to work on a project we had been discussing for years... We made a meal-ingredient database to make going to the store and making a shopping list super simple.  Pretty good way to start out the new year!

Mavericks!!!

So, I told Richard I would love to go to see the Mavs while I'm home, since I love them and I can't even watch them from DC.  So we were thinking of going to the game on the 22nd, when Chad called and invited Richard to go.  Fortunately for me, Oscar was busy so Chad offered me the extra ticket.  So I got to at least go to one game this season, so the streak is not yet broken.  I had a really great time, THANKS CHAD!!!  P.S. hope you're excited that you made the blog!
